Being a scientist has given me the knowledge and training to solve big problems. My goal in office is to do the right thing and to make life better for all of us. I’m running for Congress because I’m the right person, with the right motives, at the right time to represent District 1.

Kiani was born in Hawaii and raised by parents who each owned their own businesses. As such, Kiani has witnessed the passion and work that is required to build and sustain family businesses. Her economic viewpoints and policy ideas are rooted in this early life experience. Kiani received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Washington University (St Louis, MO) and her Ph.D. in Cell Biology from Duke University (Durham, NC). As a research scientist, she studied a variety of questions in fields ranging from plant biochemistry to bacterial division. She has extensive training in utilizing all available methods to propose data-informed solutions to unique problems that have never before been solved. Her background in science forces Kiani to acknowledge and address environmental issues in policy, most notably climate change.

Kiani is also a wife and a mother. She and her husband, Matt, have been married since 2011. They have two sons, Ethan (5yo) and Nolan (3yo). In the course of building their family, Kiani and Matt became licensed foster parents in 2015. That experience has turned Kiani into a champion for children and policies that will protect and develop all of Alabama’s children.

For the past 6 years, Kiani has been a full-time biology professor in the community college system. Now, Kiani is working to broaden her impact by joining the US Congress to sponsor and pass legislation that will improve the lives of all Americans.
